Apple Music Presents: Tyler, the Creator

Apple Music Presents: Tyler, the Creator is both the name of a live album by Tyler, the Creator and the name of the performance that the album is named after. The show was held in Los Angeles and was the first performance of the album on May 22, 2019.[1] It was also the only show that the album was performed in its entirety.[2] The live album was released on August 13, 2019 with music videos for each track.[3]

Background[]

The event was announced by Apple Music on the same day it was held.[4] During the show, Tyler explained the background of how some songs were made, including the revelation that "EARFQUAKE" was written for Justin Bieber and Rihanna, "I THINK" was recorded in Italy with Frank Ocean and Solange present, and "RUNNING OUT OF TIME" was recorded during a session with A$AP Ferg.[5]

Tyler did not perform the "EXACTLY WHAT YOU RUN FROM YOU END UP CHASING" interlude.[6] Despite being in the title for track nine on the live album, "THANK YOU" is not included in the video release.[6]

The show precedes the Igor Tour by a few months. The practice of having a surprise show shortly after release was continued with some shows that Tyler did across America with little announcement beforehand (and were not formally part of the CMIYGL tour) two years later.
