⟵ Igor • Call Me If You Get Lost • Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale ⟶
CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST (stylised in all caps and abbreviated as CMIYGL) is the seventh album from Tyler, The Creator. The album was released on June 25, 2021, through Columbia Records.
The album marks a more direct return to rap after Igor, which was much less rap-centered. Throughout this album, Tyler makes references to his lavish lifestyle, a breakup, and at times his upbringing. The persona Tyler adapts here is Tyler Baudelaire. The album is co-hosted by DJ Drama, who provides hype vocals throughout songs which resembles Gangsta Grillz tapes.
Once more Tyler recruits numerous artists, some of which are new and upcoming, while others are longtime veterans of Tyler's projects. The feature list for this album includes Pharrell Williams, Lil Uzi Vert, YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Domo Genesis, and Brent Faiyaz, amongst others.
Cover[]
The album cover depicts Tyler's persona Tyler Baudelaire, complete with details such as his actual birth date, the release date of the album, and where is he is from (Hawthorne, California.) Contrary to popular belief, the album cover is not based on Old Dirty Bastard's Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version, but instead "old passport and travel cards from [the] early 1900s."[1]
Like the CD/cassette releases of Igor, the album cover comes with four different color themes (only the coloring of the card is changed): yellow, green, pink, and blue. The standard version of the color appears to be the yellow version, based on the fact that the CD release uses that color pattern:
- Apple Music: Yellow
- Spotify: Green
- Tidal: Pink
- YouTube/Amazon Music: Blue
Before the album's release, Tyler shared another photo with the album cover that fans speculate might be a limited-edition cover for perhaps a vinyl release.[2]

Background[]
In December 2010, Tyler tweeted about wanting to make a Gangsta Grillz tape of his own with DJ Drama.[11] Tyler was also inspired by the In My Mind: The Prequel tape by Pharrell Williams. Tyler's dreams of having a Gangsta Grillz tape ultimately came true when Tyler approached DJ Drama in summer 2020 and recorded Drama's vocals across "four or five sessions" between August/September 2020 to a few months before the album's release.[12]
Currently, the oldest trace of CMIYGL lyrics could be found at the end of Flower Boy's "I Ain't Got Time!", in which an early version of the "SWEET" chorus can be heard.[13][14]
Tyler said at a live performance that he was inspired to make "LEMONHEAD" after hearing a marching band cover "EARFQUAKE" complete with a horn section and drums. A "kid" had sent him that video in October 2019.
At the 2020 GRAMMYs, Tyler dressed as a bellhop and carried a trunk with him that had a tag that read "CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST."[15] This is the earliest mention of the album's title and display of its aesthetic, yet its progress at that time is unknown. Tyler's mother, Louisa Whitman, was also seen in public for the first time when Tyler accepted his first-ever GRAMMY for Best Rap Album, his Igor.[16] She would eventually be heard in "MOMMA TALK."
Towards the end of the year, Tyler and 42 Dugg met up after declaring the hit song "We Paid" as the "core of rap music."[17]
CMIYGL also adds to an ongoing history of Tyler features. "JUGGERNAUT" marked Pharrell's fourth feature on a Tyler album, after "IFHY" (2013), "KEEP DA O'S" (2015), and "ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?" (2019). The same song also marks Uzi's second presence on a Tyler project after Igor's opener "IGOR'S THEME" (2019). Lil Wayne appears on a Tyler project for the third time after "SMUCKERS" (2015) and "Droppin' Seeds" (2017). Domo Genesis, a peer from Odd Future, last appeared in a Tyler project in 2013's "Rusty."
A$AP Rocky would have appeared on "CORSO", but Tyler said that he did not respond to him for five months.
Rollout[]
On June 9, 2021, a billboard with the text "CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST +1 (855) 444-8888" was spotted in Los Angeles, and soon in other cities across the U.S. and in select cities across the world. When people called the number, they were able to listen to a voicemail that played one of these five snippets:
- 6/9-11: "MOMMA TALK"[18]
- 6/11-15: "PASSPORT" (snippet, fan title)[19]
- 6/15-19: "CALL ME" (snippet, fan title)[20]
- 6/19-21: "SIR BAUDELAIRE" (verse)[21]
- 6/21-: "RISE!" (first verse)[22]
Tyler didn't acknowledge or promote these numbers on social media, but fans already knew it was going to be album-related. On June 14, Tyler shared the music video for "SWEET" which served as the first official teaser for the album. The following day, he released "LUMBERJACK," and on June 15, announced the album would release in ten days.[23][24] Between announcing the album and its actual release, Tyler also shared the "WUSYANAME" music video and the "BROWN SUGAR SALMON" clip.
The CMIYGL phone number was temporarily used to call Tyler on the album's release day.[25] The phone number got overwhelmed and he only managed to answer four calls.[26]
Performances[]
On the evening of June 27, Tyler performed "LUMBERJACK" at the 2021 BET Awards.
Tyler used the album's site callmeifyougetlost.com to have fans sign up for exclusive tour-related stuff.[27] Between June 29 and July 1, Tyler performed at pop-up shows in three different states (CA, TX, NY)[28] where attendance was limited to some of those who signed up in advance. Although all of the events were apparently sponsored by Amazon Music Rotation, only the third was officially livestreamed on Twitch[29] (later re-uploaded on Tyler's YouTube account.[30])

Reception[]
The album was met with widespread critical acclaim. NME gave it four stars while Pitchfork gave it a 8.4/10 rating. Popular music reviewer Anthony Fantano gave the album a "decent 8 out of 10"[31], down from Igor's "decent 9."[32]
Fans have compared this album to his earlier discography (pre-Cherry Bomb) since it contains more rap and less jazz. Some have gone as far as to label it "the straight version of Igor" due to its references to a failed relationship with a woman.
