Cherry Bomb (also known as Chur Bum and CB) is the fourth studio album by Tyler, The Creator, released on April 13, 2015, by Odd Future Records. The album is known for its coarse nature; although it contains some jazzy, smooth elements that T would later explore in albums such as Flower Boy (2017) and Igor (2019), it has been criticized for lacking cohesion to some degree.

Recurring motifs in CB include the titular "cherry bomb" device, the desire to find your wings and grow as a person, and skits that tie songs together with a movie theater that has a triple showing. The album features vocals from artists such as Charlie Wilson, Kali Uchis, ScHoolboy Q, Pharrell Williams, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne.

The album has two singles, "DEATHCAMP," and "FUCKING YOUNG / PERFECT." Music videos were released for four tracks on the album, including the two singles.

Background[]

Tyler has said that for the album, he didn't want to get personal in any way, and try and make normal songs.[1]

On May 19, 2021, the album's cover on streaming platforms was changed from the original (a drawing of the Cherry Bomb character) to the "piss pants" alternate artwork. This was done around the same time as Wolf's change. [2]

Shortly after this, the Cherry Bomb album had its original album cover returned, the instrumental version taking its place.

Promotion and release[]

On April 9, 2015, Rap-Up reported that Tyler had announced his Cherry Bomb Tour, which will visit various locations around the world, starting with his live debut of songs from the album at Coachella on April 11 to September 13, in Tokyo.[3] On the same day, after announcing his Golf Media app and Golf Magazine, Tyler released a music video for the song "Fucking Young" on the app and on YouTube.[4][5] Tyler announced on Twitter that Cherry Bomb will receive a physical release two weeks, after its digital release and it would have five different album covers.[6] On April 12, 2015, the full track list was revealed via Tyler's Instagram.[7] A day later, Cherry Bomb was released through Odd Future Records.[8]

Two years after the album was released and a day prior to the release of Flower Boy, a documentary for the album called Cherry Bomb: The Documentary was released by Mikey "Illegal Civ" Alfred[9] It featured behind-the-scenes footage of the album and narrations from Tyler. [10]
