Chromakopia (stylied as CHROMAKOPIA) is the eighth and latest album by Tyler, The Creator, released on October 28, 2024. It is Tyler's first full full-length new album since Call Me If You Get Lost (2021) and his first album to release on an even-numbered year.
Background[]
Recording[]
With Chromakopia's release in an even-numbered year, it marks a deviation from Tyler's habit of releasing a major project on odd-numbered years. At a release event, Tyler elaborated that he found it difficult to identify where to go next after Call Me If You Get Lost (2021). He also noted that Chromakopia is his most personal and accurate album yet, noting that he felt he needed to wear a mask in response to that fact.
"MASK IS OFF: CHROMAKOPIA" serves as a short documentary of the album's creation. According to an Instagram post, Daniel Caesar seems to have recorded his parts in the months leading up to the album's release.[1] The Test Pressing Version 1 copies of the album seem to show minute updates to the album, including various mixing changes, lyric changes to "Sticky", and more.
Rollout[]
On October 16, 2024, Tyler shared the first teaser titled "ST. CHROMA," which shows a bunch of men marching into a shipping container that is ultimately blown up.[2] One day later, Tyler announced the album, its release date, and cover, and merch bundles went on sale on golfwang.com.
Starting October 18 and concluding by the end of the month, two trucks with shipping containers resembling the one from the "ST. CHROMA" video traveled across parts of the United States. Fans were able to take pictures with the truck and, in some places, enjoy free food from a nearby restaurant.
On October 21, Tyler shared another teaser titled "Noid," which was released as the album's lead single later the same day.[3] The next day, he announced the vinyl release for the album.[4] On October 23, Tyler announced Chromakopia: The World Tour, set to span from February to September 2025.[5] Tyler shared a snippet of "Tomorrow" on TikTok on October 24[6] and a video for part of "Thought I Was Dead" on various platforms on October 26.[7]
Tyler had a listening party for the album on October 27 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.[8]
Release[]
Tyler released the album at 6:00 AM EST on a Monday, a deviation from the industry's norm of releasing albums on Fridays at midnight.[9] Fans have noted that he talked about the subject in his 2023 interview with Nardwuar.[10] Despite only having four days to chart, it debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, with "St. Chroma" and "Noid" charting in Billboard's top 10 songs.[11]
Shows and tour[]
In October 2024 and November 2024, Tyler embarked on a mini-tour consisting of 30-minute shows to promote the album. Stops include Los Angeles, California; Atlanta, Georgia; Boston, Massachusetts; and New York City. Tickets were only $5. In 2025, Tyler is embarking on a full tour with Lil Yachty and Paris Texas as supporting acts.
Alternate versions[]
An alternate version titled Test Pressing Version 1 has been released on physical media only. It features the exclusive track "Mother," a verse from Playboi Carti on "Thought I Was Dead," and production differences in every track on the album.
