Igor is a fictional character and the main protagonist from the 2019 album, IGOR, by American rapper/record producer Tyler the Creator. Igor is the performer of all of the songs in the album. He is shown in a physical form in every music video made for the album, as well as many promos.

The Story of “IGOR”[]

Igor is the main character of the album. He is a male character stuck in a love triangle between his closeted male crush and the male character’s love interest. At the start of the album, Igor is talking to the male character, and before long, falls in love with him. He confesses his love to him and tells him that the male character makes his “EARFQUAKE” . Although the male character loves Igor back, he is scared of what the public will think about him because hes gay/bisexual. Eventually, Igor finds out that the male character is talking to another girl, and realizes he is “RUNNING OUT OF TIME” to make the male character love him. In “NEW MAGIC WAND”, Igor makes threatens to kill the girl if the male character doesn’t choose him. He refuses to comply, so Igor follows through. He feels he is being controlled by the male character, and goes on a self-centered rampant in “WHAT’ S GOOD”. Eventually, he “sees the light” and “comes to his senses” helping him come to the conclusion he comes to in the next track, “GONE, GONE/THANK YOU”. He lets the male character know that his “love’s gone” and begins to thank him for love and time given to Igor. Igor tells the male character that he “doesn’t love him anymore” (hence the name of the second to last track being “I DONT LOVE YOU ANYMORE”) and tells him that he wasted Igor’s time. Igor himself questions how he can move on so quickly, indicating he’s truly not ready to move on. This is proved correct on the final track - “ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?”. Igor is realizing that he still wants the male character, and asks if they can still be friends because he “doesn’t want to end the season on a bad episode” and he “can’t say goodbye”. It is unknown what happens after this point. Ending the album we hear a long D-flat synth note, very similar to the E-flat one heard at the beginning of “IGOR’S THEME”, suggesting that Igor falls back into love with the male character and the story repeats.

IGOR'S THEME:[]

IGOR is introduced through his self-titled track, beginning with a E-flat synth that becomes important through the story of the song.

Trivia[]

  • Igor is seen with a blonde flat top on the album cover, but wears a bleached bowl cut for the album's music videos and promotion.
    • Tyler stated in an interview he wore the wig because he "thought it was cool."
  • Igor is often dressed with sunglasses, colorful matching suit vests and dress pants. He also wears expensive accessories like diamond earrings, gold chains, and silver grills.
  • Igor doesn't die in the "SORRY NOT SORRY" music video, as he was the backing vocals for the song even when Sir Baudelaire died.
  • The pink colour featured in the IGOR album cover is ironically called “Cupid”, probably purposefully by Tyler due to it being a heartbreak album.
  • Igor is heavily based on Dr. Frankenstein’s assistant often called by the same name. This is proven further by many factors, such as Tyler recreating the iconic look of Igor in the album cover, having one eye appear larger than the other. Much of the album’s characterization reflects the dark, muttery voice of Frankenstein’s assistant. The the story of Frankenstein, all of his attention goes towards his creation, leaving Igor with none, similar to the situation shown throughout the album, with Igor begging the male character for attention in songs like “PUPPET”.
